Proverbs of Solomon, chapters 10-12 (NASB with ESV in parentheses)

10:3
The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, but He will reject (thwart) the craving of the wicked.

The Lord takes care of his people. He is our king. The wicked sometimes seem to have everything, but God will take everything away from them in the end. Trust in God for the needs of your family.

10:4
Poor is he who works with a (slack) negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

You must work with diligence. Your family needs your work and the money you earn for their care. You and your family will suffer for your sins of laziness in this life.

10:5
He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely (prudent son), but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully (brings shame to the family).

You must work for your family. Even sons must support parents and younger siblings and other relatives.

You must work at the right time. There are many times that are not right time to rest or take it easy.

11:24
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. (One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.)

Scatter your money to many and the Lord will increase you. Take care of people with your money: the needy in your family, your church, and your local community. Those who keep all their money for their own pleasures will suffer God’s judgment.

11:25
The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. (Whoever brings blessing will be enriched)

God will bless those who are generous. Make money, but spend it on others who need it.

11:28
He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.

Seek righteousness first and trust God. Don’t make money your first concern. Do not trust in riches to take care of you, but realize that God is the who upholds you.

12:11
He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.

Work hard to provide for your family. Do not pursue things that prevent you from working for your family: silly ideas, fantasies, schemes to get rich quick, gambling, excessive recreation, whatever it is.

12:24
The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack (slothful) hand will be put to forced labor.

If you continue to work hard you will rise up to have men beneath you. Even if it is only two or three. You will move up the ladder. If you are lazy you will slide down to the bottom.
